Yes, this is an On-Camera class. Yes, there is technique and craft that is specific to working with a camera (marks, frame sizes, finding the lens, etc.) and we will cover a lot of it. There is a camera and monitor (this is where many will learn the most, watching other actors) in class and it will always be running.

But, first and foremost, this is an acting class. Because knowing how to wait for a camera to pan doesn't mean diddly if it finds you lying when it lands. While we are working with a camera, we will be working with you -  the actor, the artist, the person. Because one thing we know is that you cannot fool a camera. No one is that good an actor. It sees everything.  If you resist, if you put up a wall, it will see that.  But if you relax, if you allow it inside, then - no matter what the role or scene - it will be your best friend.

"Acting is standing up naked and turning around very slowly."  - Rosalind Russell

We will dig into you, uncover you, find the courage you already have to be your most vulnerable. Let the words, the person, the situation, in - straight through your heart, allow it to hurt (and it should) and then bounce it off that strong backbone and shoot it back out into the world with a purpose. Soft front, strong back. It takes courage to work this way - to be so fearlessly open - but it's the only way to access your deepest 'stuff' and bring it to the work. And bring the transparency that we love to watch.  So while we may be growing accustomed to an ECU (extreme close-up), it's always about the unvarnished truth.

"I've taken a lot of classes in LA and Brian's "On Set" class blew me away.  He's an incredible teacher with a real understanding of how to push actors past what they think is good.  And he's a working actor himself.  He knows exactly what we're going through."  - Devin T.

“I’ve been working for Brian for 10 months now and I must say his attention to detail, compassion, specificity, instincts and simplicity are unmatchable. He knows what it means to be a true artist. He’s a rare gem in this industry; hands down the best.” – Blake Massad

“Brian frees actors to explore and challenges their way of approaching a scene, encouraging truth and revelation through committed play.”
- Katherine Kelloway
